The P3 Model

Community Development Exchange describes community development as:

“… changing the relationships between ordinary people and people in positions of power, so that everyone can take part in the issues that affect their lives. It starts from the principle that within any community there is a wealth of knowledge and experience which, if used in creative ways, can be channeled into collective action to achieve the communities' desired goals.”

Driven by our goal to increase the conception, funding, creation and delivery of community development activities, Rio Grande Valley Partners (RGVP) created the Public Private Partnership (P3) Model.  This approach to community development moves us beyond the role many organizations take as “consultants to” and “facilitators of” non-profits and allows RGVP and our community partners to succeed by:

  • facilitating the public/private relationships needed to support the productive development and delivery of community-oriented products and services; and,
  • integrating the continued evaluation of program investments and activities in order to ensure a sufficiently high return on resources invested.
